Does Your Website Have Curb Appeal?


As you know, curb appeal is an important factor in ones ability to sell a home. If the yard is unkempt, the gutters overflowing, the windows dirty and impossible to see through, many of your potential buyers are going to be turned off by the property, no matter how it looks on the inside.

Your website is the same way. If an internet user visits your website for the first time and feels that your website is unkempt and generally unappealing to the eye, they will turn around and leave your site without bothering to find out what kind of great information you have within the pages of your site.

When was the last time you got an outsiders opinion of your website? It’s important to try and keep an unbiased eye when it comes to the design of your site, but this task is pretty difficult. If you spend any good amount of time working on the design and layout of your website, chances are that you personally find it appealing. The best way to know if the general public agrees with you is to ask an outsider what they think of your site. The next time you have a social gathering, try asking 3 people to sit down and navigate around your website. Ask them the following 4 questions:

    • What was the first positive thing that caught your eye on my site?
    • What was the first negative thing that caught your eye on my site?
    • Was there anything on my website that you felt was unnecessary?
    • Was there anything not on my website that you felt was missing?


The answers to these questions should help you to establish some of the things you may need to change on your website. Remember, it’s never too late to make your website more aesthetically pleasing!
