Blogging: More Than an Online Journal
Just as owning a cell phone has become a norm in our everyday lives, having your own blog is now becoming somewhat of a standard practice among business professionals. Due to the fact that blogs are one of the most inexpensive ways to market yourself, many online marketeers have created quite a reputation for themselves through blogging.
Blogs are easy to update and are fairly simple to use. Personally, I think the true beauty of blogging is the quick updating abilities they provide. No longer do we have to sit down and write-out e-mails or send letters to let people know what is going on in our lives. One blog post can let friends, family and clients know the latest-and-greatest in your life while affording you the luxury of not having to build pages-long lists of people to send the information to. Anyone who wants to know about you can, simply by visiting your blog.
Some things to consider when blogging:
Who are you?
It's easier for people to relate to you and trust your opinion when they have an idea for who you are. You don't need to get into deep detail about your personal life, chances are that if someone is coming to read your blog, they're not looking to know your golf handicap. Simply let them know how long you have been in the business, your specializations, etc. You don't need to do this every time you blog, just the one good post about yourself should suffice.
Why are you blogging?
Being upfront about your intentions will be helpful for your visitors to determine if your blog post is what they're looking for. It’s a good idea to write a couple of sentences in the beginning of your post that give a general synopsis of what the post is about. In speech writing terms, they call this an "Opening Statement."
What are you saying that everyone else isn't?
You know your market and area better than anyone and now is the time to prove it! Updating your blog with "insider" information about the areas you service will help to establish you as an authority on all things Real Estate in your market.
Leave them wanting more.
Hinting at subjects you plan on addressing on your blog in the future will help to build interest and can aid in bringing people back to your blog at a later date. When you do eventually write the posts you mentioned, don't forget to go back to those older posts and edit them with a link to the new blog. This can also be done by writing a "series" which is a group of posts all revolving around the same general subject matter, which eventually all tie together.
Draw attention to your blog!
Simply having a blog is not good enough, you have to work hard at keeping it updated and also work at helping people to find it! You can do this by contributing to other peoples blogs by commenting on their posts and providing a link to your own blog at the same time. By providing your knowledge to others in the form of comments, you show your expertise on a given subject while providing them with a direct link where they can hear more from you about all things Real Estate (and more.)
If you do not currently have a blog and are interested in adding one to your website, there are many blog providers available to choose from. Give our Customer Support team a call for more information on how you can get started blogging TODAY!
