KNOW the Renewal
Date of your DOMAIN NAME
If you MISS this Important Date it will COST you!
These days, it's more important than
ever to be aware of the date your domain (www.YourName.com) expires.
For our clients who have received Marketing Tips and Newsletters
from us in the past which stress the importance of keeping track of
your domain name, we don't mean to sound like a broken record. We
understand the necessity of verifying the expiration date, as well
as ensuring that all correct information (especially your e-mail
address) is correct for your domain name. We are still finding some
of our clients are losing their domain
names to "cybersquatters" who steal them away
as soon as they expire. To help YOU avoid the frustration and
inconvenience of losing your domain, please read this important
information.
Very recently, to prevent
cybersquatters from re-registering your domain name immediately
after its expiration date, VeriSign
- parent company of Network Solutions, implemented a new program
that allows you to "redeem" your domain names within 30
days after its expiration period.
In the new program, Verisign will
"hold" your domain name for 30 days after it expires and
prevent anyone else from re-registering it upon expiration. Once
your domain name has entered into this "REDEMPTIONPERIOD"
status it is only possible to have your domain name released back to
you by paying a fee. Oddly, this fee seems to be different from one
domain name registration company to the next. We've seen the fee as
low as $100.00 (this seems to be the norm), which doesn't include
your renewal fee, but companies such as Register.com are actually
charging upwards of $235.00 ($200 restoration service fee plus $35
for one year renewal) when your domain name is in the "REDEMPTIONPERIOD"
status.
What does this mean to you?
With Verisign's new program, it is less likely that your domain name
will be stolen by a cybersquatter. However, if you don't renew
your domain on time, it will cost you! Unless you want to pay a
$100.00 (or MORE!) fee for releasing the hold on your domain name,
be sure that you renew it before the expiration date.
***Here are some helpful FACTS
regarding YOUR domain name maintenance:
A. Remember that your domain
name is a separate entity from your website (even if we
registered your domain for you.) Your domain name is YOUR
responsibility. If you change your e-mail address, it should also be
updated on your domain name account, IN ADDITION to any e-mail
forwarding that you may currently have set up. Updating your website
and our client database alone will not update your domain name
account. If you are not sure what contact information is currently
on your domain, check any "whois" database such as the
following:
www.geektools.com/whois.php
After you click on the link above,
enter in your domain name (i.e. mydomain.com - no 'http://' or 'www'
entered please!) - Then click on Whois. Then scroll down to view the
name under which your domain is registered, the contact information
on the domain name, and the date it expires.
Does all of this sound too
confusing? If you are unsure of how to update your domain name
account, please give us a call. Please know that we are here to
serve you and would be more than happy to assist you in any of your
domain name questions!
B. Remember your domain name
registration company and keep the domain username and password on
file. If you don't have the username and password, you can't get
into the account to update the information, which could cause
frustration. Please note that your domain username and password is
different than the passwords in your Virtual Office.
C. Extend the domain registration for
as long as possible. Remember that transferring your domain name to
Advanced Access' servers does NOT extend the registration of your
domain name nor does it transfer the ownership of your domain to
Advanced Access. Currently domains can be reserved for up to 10
years at a time. If you extend the renewal for the longest amount of
time, then renewal increments will be less frequent, which means the
possibility of a "cybersquatter" registering YOUR domain
would be less likely.

"Hi!
Jennifer...Congratulations to everybody at Advanced Access on the
ABC Gold Award. Please display it on my website. With the hard work
that you do it is no wonder. I also want to take a minute and say
thank you sooooooo! much for all you have done to get my website up
and going. I have spread the word and everybody I've shown it to has
been very impressed. I had a website with another provider and I was
disappointed thinking that surely there must be something better out
there and with your service my faith has been restored many times
over."
