How to be a POWER USER of Third Level Domain Names

Example: http://Properties.JohnforRealEstate.com

We all know that a domain name is your unique identity on the Internet. Your domain name is important to secure visibility, name association and name recognition for you and your real estate business. Occasionally you might hear someone mention "levels" when referring to domain names, so we thought it would be helpful to provide a brief explanation below:

Top Level Domain Name: A top level domain name (TLD) is the three character suffix of the URL, which is separated by a dot. There are currently several TLD names that are commonly available for registration, such as .com, .net, .org, .biz, and more.

Second Level Domain Name: The second level domain name appears immediately to the left of the extension name and is separated by a dot, i.e. "JohnforRealEstate," as in www.JohnforRealEstate.com.

Third Level Domain Name: The third level domain name (also called a sub domain name), appears immediately to the left of the second level domain name and is separated by a dot, i.e. "properties," as in http://properties.JohnforRealEstate.com

Why would I want a Third Level Domain Name? Sometimes it is easier and saves your clients time searching through your website if you can give them a "direct" link to a specific section, such as Featured Properties, for example. If you are advertising your listings, you can set up a direct link for the consumer to find your featured properties and include it in your traditional marketing. Any of the sections in your website can be assigned third level domain names.

Using Third Level Domain Names can have a POWERFUL impact on your advertising. If you have listings in a particular neighborhood, it is very easy to create a Third Level Domain Name and 'point' it to a particular page in your website.

To set up a Third Level Domain Name in your Classic Package website, follow the instructions below:

- Log in to your Virtual Office
- Click on 'Admin Options'
- Click on 'Third Level Domains'
- Click on 'Click HERE to Add a Third Level Domain'

In the 'Sub-Domain' section, you will need to choose the wording for your Third Level Domain... Some examples would be; Homes, Listings, Links, or Free Reports.

After choosing the words for your Third Level Domain name, you will have to specify the page to which you would like it to open. You can select a page from your website, or you can select an outside link.

Once you are completed, you can click 'Save' on the right hand side to save your Third Level Domain name.

After setting up the Third Level Domain Name, you might want to test it by typing the URL into your browser to be sure it's operating correctly. Now you're ready to send your clients and prospects DIRECTLY where you want them to go in your website. So, be a POWER USER and try it today - you can successfully send out a link to ANY section of your website in your advertising campaign.

If you've got a great example of using Third Level Domain names, please feel free to send it to us. We appreciate your feedback, and love to share your great marketing ideas with our clients so we can all be more successful.

"Dear Kristina, Justin, and the wonderful Support Staff at Advanced Access,

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for everything! This letter is looong overdue, as I have been having success as an Advanced Access customer since 2001. I started with a basic website, and not only has that been a success, so has the custom company website that I built with Advanced Access. On top of that, my agents’ sites with you are also flourishing! Thank you, thank you, thank you Advanced Access for helping myself, helping Metro Realty, and helping Metro agents achieve website success!

First of all, Advanced Access helped to teach me how to run and maintain a good website. With my personal site,  I would spend quite a bit of time on the phone with your customer support learning the basics from search engines to the Virtual Office. Your customer service reps were always helpful and willing to go the extra mile for me. This is what made me think of Advanced Access when it was time to do the company website!

Building www.MetroEstates.com was my next project. I decided to go for the Premium website so that we could make the Metro name stand out – and your site designer did just that! All of our websites together average over 50,000 unique visitors a month, and I must give thanks to Advanced Access for helping me to create a beautiful and effective website. Your designers even created an “intranet” where Metro agents can login, get information, and download forms that they need. That sure saves me time – I can be in 10 places at once. I could not have done it without your great support team and innovative Marketing Tips!

The thing I am most thankful for is the assistance and success you have brought to our agents. As you know, we work for them! Thank you for creating a special “Metro template” for us, and showing our agents how to use it. Without your support department, I would need to hire one of my own. Being able to set up a website for an agent in just one short week is so helpful in starting them off on the right track. We currently have over 10 Metro templates, and we just bought 10 more. Thanks Advanced Access – when it comes to a Real Estate website on any level - you’re the best!!

Thank you,
Brad Coleman
