How to be a POWER
USER of Third
Level Domain
Names
Example: http://Properties.JohnforRealEstate.com
We all know that a domain name is
your unique identity on the Internet. Your domain name is important
to secure visibility, name association and name recognition for you
and your real estate business. Occasionally you might hear someone
mention "levels" when referring to domain names, so we
thought it would be helpful to provide a brief explanation
below:
Top Level Domain Name: A top
level domain name (TLD) is the three character suffix of the URL,
which is separated by a dot. There are currently several TLD names
that are commonly available for registration, such as .com, .net,
.org, .biz, and more.
Second Level Domain Name: The
second level domain name appears immediately to the left of the
extension name and is separated by a dot, i.e. "JohnforRealEstate,"
as in www.JohnforRealEstate.com.
Third Level Domain Name: The
third level domain name (also called a sub domain name), appears
immediately to the left of the second level domain name and is
separated by a dot, i.e. "properties," as in
http://properties.JohnforRealEstate.com
Why would I
want a Third Level Domain Name? Sometimes it is easier
and saves your clients time searching through your website if you
can give them a "direct" link to a specific section, such
as Featured Properties, for example. If you are
advertising your listings, you can set up a direct link for the
consumer to find your featured properties and include it in your
traditional marketing. Any of the sections in your website
can be assigned third level domain names.
Using Third Level Domain Names can
have a POWERFUL impact on your advertising. If you have listings in
a particular neighborhood, it is very easy to create a Third Level
Domain Name and 'point' it to a particular page in your website.
To set up a Third Level Domain Name
in your Classic Package website, follow the instructions
below:
- Log in to your Virtual Office
- Click on 'Admin Options'
- Click on 'Third Level Domains'
- Click on 'Click HERE to Add a Third Level Domain'
In the 'Sub-Domain' section, you will
need to choose the wording for your Third Level Domain... Some
examples would be; Homes, Listings, Links, or Free Reports.
After choosing the words for your
Third Level Domain name, you will have to specify the page to which
you would like it to open. You can select a page from your website,
or you can select an outside link.
Once you are completed, you can click
'Save' on the right hand side to save your Third Level Domain
name.
After setting up the Third Level
Domain Name, you might want to test it by typing the URL into your
browser to be sure it's operating correctly. Now you're ready to
send your clients and prospects DIRECTLY where you want them to go
in your website. So, be a POWER USER and try it today - you can
successfully send out a link to ANY section of your website in your
advertising campaign.
If you've got a great example of
using Third Level Domain names, please feel free to send it to us.
We appreciate your feedback, and love to share your great marketing
ideas with our clients so we can all be more successful.
