Reciprocal Linking: Making it Easy
The past three weeks we have gone over what
link popularity is, how
to get popular, how
to begin the process, and how
to exchange links with someone, and how
to participate in our Weekly Marketing Tips.
Now that you have your instruction
page all set up, it's time to start proactively contacting other
people to ask them to exchange links with you.
To start with, you should add a
button and/or a link on your home page to direct to your 'Link to
Me' page. You should also add a button and/or a link on your
home page for site visitors to view your list of reciprocal links.
You may call this page many things ... if you are simply exchanging
links with REALTORS®, you can have a link or a button that reads 'Referral
Network'. You need to have these links on your home page so they
can be accessed easily. It's also necessary to have these links so
the search engines can find them and index them. It helps to have a
properly indexed website and the only way search engines can find
these pages is through links.
One challenge you will run into when
requesting links is trying to explain to people exactly WHERE your
Instruction Page can be found. Here's an example of what NOT to
do:
"Visit my Website at http://www.MyDomain.com,
then scroll down and find the little link at the bottom of the site
entitled 'Link Exchange Instructions. Do you see it? It's at the
bottom...keep scrolling down.."
Now that can get a little messy.
Here's a better idea… give your prospective link partners a
special page with its own domain name to they can simply click on a
link to find your information. It's called a Third Level Domain
name. You can add your Third Level Domain to your e-mail signature
and make it EASY for people to link up with you.
Here's how it works:
- If you have the Classic Package,
log in to your Virtual Office.
- Click on Admin Options.
- Click on Third Level Domains
- Click on 'Click HERE to Add a Third Level Domain'
- Choose a name and put it in the 'Sub-Domain' field.
- Select the Domain Name on which you are adding this Third Level
Domain.
- Select the Website Link, or choose a Custom Link to direct to.
- Click on Save.
You have now created a Third Level
Domain name. Now that you have this special link, you can advertise
your link like this:
Add your URL at addurl.greerteam.com
or
Take Advantage of my Free Link Exchange at link-exchange.dianemccombs.com
or
Link to Us at
linktous.arkansashomestore.com
When being proactive about exchanging
links, here is a good example of an email to send to your
prospective link partners:
Hi there,
Would you consider adding our site,
<<Your Title Here>, to your Web site at www.TheirWebsiteAddressHere.com
My Website would provide a great
benefit to your visitors. It offers the latest listings in the
Anaheim Hills/Orange County area, as well as free reports, community
and school information, and contains useful tools to help make an
informed decision on home buying or selling.
Here's our site title, URL and a
short description:
<Your Title>>
<<Your Website Address>
<<Your Description>>
We are very interested in starting up
a link partnership with you. In fact, we have already added your
link to our site. You can find it here:
<<Set up a Third Level Domain for your Links and insert it
here>>
Thanks for your consideration!
