When Does Your .Com Expire?

It's more important than ever to be aware of the date your domain (www.YourName.com) expires. For our clients who have received Marketing Tips and Newsletters from us in the past which stress the importance of keeping track of your domain name, we don't mean to sound like a broken record. We understand the necessity of verifying the expiration date, as well as ensuring that all correct information (especially your e-mail address) is correct for your domain name. We are still finding some of our clients are losing their domain names to "cybersquatters" who steal them away as soon as they expire. To help YOU avoid the frustration and inconvenience of losing your domain, please read this important information.

***Here are some helpful FACTS regarding YOUR domain name maintenance:

A. Remember that your domain name is a separate entity from your website (even if we registered your domain for you.)  Your domain name is YOUR responsibility. If you change your e-mail address, it should also be updated on your domain name account, IN ADDITION to any e-mail forwarding that you may currently have set up. Updating your website and our client database alone will not update your domain name account. If you are not sure what contact information is currently on your domain, check any "whois" database such as the following:

www.geektools.com/whois.php

After you click on the link above, enter in the the abuse code and then your domain name (i.e. mydomain.com - no 'http://' or 'www' entered please!) - Then click on Whois. Then scroll down to view the name under which your domain is registered, the contact information on the domain name, and the date it expires.

Does all of this sound too confusing? If you are unsure of how to update your domain name account, please give us a call. Please know that we are here to serve you and would be more than happy to assist you in any of your domain name questions!

B. Remember your domain name registration company and keep the domain username and password on file. If you don't have the username and password, you can't get into the account to update the information, which could cause frustration. Please note that your domain username and password is different than the passwords in your Virtual Office.

C. Extend the domain registration for as long as possible. Remember that transferring your domain name to Advanced Access' servers does NOT extend the registration of your domain name nor does it transfer the ownership of your domain to Advanced Access. Currently domains can be reserved for up to 10 years at a time. If you extend the renewal for the longest amount of time, then renewal increments will be less frequent, which means the possibility of a "cybersquatter" registering YOUR domain would be less likely.

Important Items to Remember to eliminate problems in the future:

- KNOW the date your domain name expires

- Make sure you know the REGISTRY in which your domain was registered

- Keep your PASSWORDS located in a safe place

If you have any questions about your domain name, please don't hesitate to contact us. It is extremely IMPORTANT to ensure your domain name is safe and protected.

Read the following from real estate professionals who are using Advanced Access' Marketing Tips to their advantage:

I just wanted to say thanks to all of the support folks that helped me with the daunting task of converting my hundreds of Realtor link exchanges that were not in any order to be sorted by state. The virtual office was easier to understand than I thought it would be (for someone who is not very tech savvy) & the support staff was there to help when I got stuck a few times. It's nice to know we have this level of support when we need it.

Dave Alperin, GRI, REALTORŪ

"I just wanted to say thank you to Jeff at AA who I spoke with this morning. I finally decided to tackle my reciprocal links and after spending many, many hours and still not being able to accomplish what I was trying to accomplish, Jeff solved my problem and now I have an AMAZING Realtor's Link Page! Still have a few things to tweak, but I am so excited that I can start linking. Please go to my website everyone and link to me and vice versa! Thanks again Jeff!"
