How Your Interior Web Site Pages Can
Get Better Found By Search Engines

By Bill Koelzer

If you’re like most agents, you think of your web site as being your home page URL: for example, www.YourCityAndRealEstate.com.  But you can have MANY “web sites” if you treat your interior pages with the same respect as you do your home page.

We all get a bit lax when it comes to interior pages.  But engines that do deep searching like Google and Yahoo, which account for most all searches done, can rank your interior pages highly, too.  However, only if you help them.

Haven’t you ever done a search for some nugget of news or data and been sent to some page with an interminably long address like www.BigInfoSite.com/categories/real_estate/michigan/Info/Articles/InteriorPages.htm?

Well, that was an interior page having data that matched your search, and the search engine delivered it to you, perhaps even as a first choice.  So why not have your interior pages come up like that, too?

The way to get interior pages optimized to come up better on search engines is to:

  1. Make their infrastructure appealing to search engines, and
  2. Add significant content to them.

Here’s a few tasks that will help:

  • Add Meta Tags with interspersed key words relevant solely to the content of the interior page.
  • Add a significantly large headline that uses proper key words for THAT page.
  • Add more short paragraphs of content about the topic of that page.
  • Just when you think you have enough content on the page, add more.  Content is king.
  • Use photos to add eye appeal for visitors, or you will lose them even if your page is #1.
  • Go take or find pictures relating to the page’s content; post with captions containing key words
  • Include hyperlinks within the text, to other pages within your site, or to outside references
  • If a city-related page, add tons of links to city-related information, but…
  • …link more to outside city pages that repeat the key words for your particular internal page.
  • Get other sites to link to your interior page using anchor text that helps that page come up high.
  • But vary your requests for desired reciprocal link anchor text so they are not identical. (critical)
  • Set a personal goal of adding one new page of content every two weeks.
  • Measure the performance of that page using readily available tools and services.

Since you should have already applied all of the above to your home page, none of this should be daunting to you.  Go test this starting with just three of your topmost ranked internal pages.  Give it three months.  And just see if doing the above has made a remarkable difference.

Remember, if they cannot find your site, they cannot do business with you.  So maximize your chances of getting found.  Make your internal pages get found, too.

Below are a few examples of Interior Pages that our clients have created. Please enter in these keywords without the quotes.

(Please note these results are subject to change at any time!)

Entering in “las vegas high rise condos” in Google, LVRealty.net comes up in the #3 position with an optimized interior page for high rise condos. You can see how LVRealty.net created custom meta tags through their Classic Package 3.0 and have this page filled with content.

Typing in "hyakumata golf" in Google, C21MyrtleBeach.com comes up in the 4th result with the 'Wood Stork' golf course owned by Hyakumata & Co.

Typing in "myrtle beach river oaks condos sale" in Google, C21MyrtleBeach.com comes up in the 3rd result with their site map that they have created.

In the 4th position, typing in "dick's bodacious barbeque" comes up with PatHaddad.com's Local Partner Network.  Pat's has a page on Dick's Bodacious Barbeque entered in through her Local Partners.  Pat received 5 hits to her website in March for simply entering this partner into her website.

In the 1st position, typing in "homes for sale in 46032" comes up with an informative page on places of worship in Carmel, IN created by Pat Haddad.
