How to get Referrals off the Internet! Referrals, or word of mouth advertising, can be the best form of advertising there is. You benefit by gaining a new client without having to overcome much resistance, without having to prove your credibility, and without much, if any, marketing cost. Referrals have to be earned by providing outstanding service. You would hope that your clients would tell their family, friends, and associates about their experience with you but it does not happen very often. At least not without prompting your past client, and reminding them that you are there for them. With that in mind, here are some ways to get more referrals off the Internet: #1 - Hold a monthly or quarterly drawing on your website for everyone who has sent you a referral, bought a home, or listed a home during that period. Doing this would encourage your past clients to refer your name to their friends and family. Also, the recognition they receive for winning your 'drawing' may make them refer you multiple times. Tie your Internet advertising into your regular advertising by mailing your farming area and mention the name of the prize winner and what the item they won. And, of course, make sure to include a "mail in" form or postcard to make forwarding referrals an easy, painless process. You can cut costs and still provide valuable prizes by making deals with local vendors. Ken Cheong does this by having a Monthly Drawing on his website: www.kencheong.com #2 - Add a nice request for referrals to your email signature. An example is shown below from Joel Hawk's email signature. When he emails a friend, family member, or a potential client he adds a PS to the end of this e-mail that reads: ...Oh by the way, if you
know of a family member or friend who is thinking about buying or selling
their home, and you want them to have the level of service they deserve,
just give me a call with their name and number. I'll be glad to help. #3 - Put a statement on your website asking for referrals. It doesn't take much - just a small statement similar to the one you added to your email signature! You can also stretch that idea by making sure your car license plate mentions your business, have your web address posted on the trunk of your car, and use magnetic signs. Doing more advertising will generate more interest in your business... Always mention to people that you do much of your business by referral.
