Quality Link Resources
We
recently announced that our Link Popularity Update was no longer going to be
a part of our Weekly Marketing Tips. We cannot continue to stress enough
that the quality of inbound links acquired for your website is an
important part of your online marketing strategy. Finding these quality links is
not easy. We wanted to give you some helpful hints on how to continue your
search for those links using local directories of your community.
There are many online directories that have been around for years with
established sites just waiting for you to find them.
Dmoz is one of these directories.
Dmoz is comprised of volunteer editors who spend their own time searching out
quality sites to add to the directory. For that reason, you will find
quality sites that have good content. These sites are a great resource for
exchanging links.
Here's how you get started:
Go to
http://www.Dmoz.org
Click on ‘Regional’ and then ‘US’
Find your state and then select ‘Localities’
From that point, you will want to ‘drill down’ to your County and then your
local city.
Here in California, Advanced Access is near Yorba Linda.
Click
here
to view the different sites comprised of the Yorba Linda locality.
You have several different categories you can explore, as well as a few select
links at the bottom of the page. Clicking into the first category of ‘Arts &
Entertainment’ there are a few specific links that you can browse through. If
you, a real estate professional, lived or worked in Yorba Linda you may wish to
create a unique content page about the Yorba Linda Arts. After having created
such a page, you can link to a couple of the sites you found. The next
step is to contact those sites and ask if they would be willing to link to you
as well.
Going back to the main Yorba Linda page in our example and clicking on ‘Business
and Economy’ leads to many more choice links. Many are links that are simply
based in Yorba Linda but do business around California or even the United States
but others are localized stores that would welcome knowing you have created (or
are creating!) community pages that you wish to advertise them on, and would be
interested in having a page dedicated to YOU as well. This is the key!
Do this in your own town and all surrounding areas that you work in and work on
those persuasive charms to garner up some lucrative inbound quality advertising!
On your own, you may discover quality sites that
are not in Dmoz. They may not be in the directory because volunteers don’t
have the time to keep up with the influx of sites. This is a great
opportunity for you to send in an application to volunteer for editing in your
own local community. Once a site is part of Dmoz, that makes the link that
much more valuable, so you help yourself by adding links that you've found to
Dmoz.
Moving over to the grandfather of all directories, the
Yahoo Directory is also an
important place to surf around for local sites. At one time, entry into the
Yahoo directory was free if a Yahoo! Surfer found your site and added you in.
Now, it costs $299 for a commercial site to be added in. You may find some of
the same sites found in Dmoz but there will most likely be some new ones to add
to your list to pursue.
Searching out quality local sites can be a hard job but will pay off for you in
the future.
