Quality Content is Your Golden Ticket
Recently we have focused a great deal on the importance of quality items on your site. Whether it be links or content, the emphasis is on quality versus quantity.
There is one section of your site that may have become a place where quantity has won...your 'States Pages' for link exchanges. This week we'll focus on a remedy for this.
Whether you use one of the previous versions or the current version of our States Pages, or have created your own pages for link exchanges, there may be an important element missing, that element is content.
Now, more than ever, it is very important that these sorts of pages do not simply remain a long list of links and descriptions. You need to add relevant content to each of these pages.
What is relevant to state pages with links? Information about each specific state can be included on its page. You can add information about the state flower, motto, and other fun facts. You can also talk about the region and even highlight an agent or two before the list of links that you want to feature (if you know them personally or have done business with them in the past, for example). This turns a state page into an actual resource for a consumer instead of a list; this is the best way to format these pages to be search engine friendly.
Remember, the descriptions on your states pages for each link are likely the same that has been used on every other site linking to that person, meaning those descriptions are not going to count as content for you. So right now, without additional unique content, you have a page of just links.
Of course, the most important is your State Directory page (or main link exchange directory page). This is the doorway to all of the other pages, so this is the one that search engines will likely see first.
What content can you add to your main state directory page? The most relevant content to include on this page is information about relocating to another state or area of the country. This is a great place to offer a download or mailing of your relocation packet (if you have one), or to offer any advice or sentiments about relocating. You can discuss relocating as a family versus relocating as an individual, and you can also write about purchasing a property in another state as an investment instead of a new residence.
Unique and quality content on pages that would otherwise consist of a list of links will help you toward your goal of being more visible to the search engines.
Review this excerpt from a recent Marketing Tip:
The perfect website would consist of informative content and articles that naturally linked out to other fantastic resources in a natural way. It would be more than simply a long list of links. If you wanted to write a unique article about the state of the real estate market in Texas (and you resided in California) and provided a few links to some of your recommended real estate professionals in different parts of the state, that would be a valuable resource. If you wrote up a short review (in your own words) of your recommended professionals and gave them your seal of approval, while providing a handy form for your visitor to fill out that would be sent back to you so you could then introduce them to your referrals, that would even be better. If those recommended professionals also linked to your website with their own unique page of content, it would be mutually beneficial. Again, providing a list of outgoing links is simply no longer the ‘in’ thing to do.
