I want to revisit the subject once more for everyone, as well as all our new customers! Recently there have been a trend toward more emphasis on link popularity in some of the top search engine directories. Therefore, it's always a good idea to reinforce the concept and to emphasize the importance of Link Popularity once again The way Link Popularity works is as follows: Search engines can track down sites that provide a link to your website. The more links you have pointing to your website from others, the more "popular" (by perception) your site will be which will result in more traffic and higher rankings. Currently the following search engines use link popularity in their ranking algorithms: Google, AltaVista, HotBot, MSN Search and Excite. Here is an example of how Link Popularity works:
The more websites that have links to YOUR website will increase your Link Popularity. It also helps a great deal when the sites that link to you are RELATIVE TO your particular industry. In this case: Real Estate. How

in the RealEstateABC.com has MASTERED link popularity. When searching Google (http://www.Google.com) for the generic term "real estate sites" they are the first site listed on the results page (At 02/05/01 this was correct, things may have changed now!). On February 8, 2001 I typed in the word 'real estate' into the Google seach engine and RealEstateABC.com is #3! The reason? Link Popularity. Google is extremely oriented toward link popularity. These real estate related sites have many real estate agent websites that link to them. www.relibrary.com and www.ired.com have captured the #1 and #2 spots for the keyword of 'real estate' as well. If YOU wish to be found under the term of 'real estate', sign up at these sites in your community. Consumers will be searching these real estate related websites, FIND your name, and visit your site. You may purchase a link on these sites for a very small fee. At RealEstateABC, they do not charge a fee for being listed on their website. Because RealEstateABC has a directory that limits the number of Realtors, they have a ranking system that determines who receives a specific link. The ranking system awards stars for various criteria. What do the stars mean? Check out their legend right here! The violet star is a new colored star, currently available ONLY to Advanced Access clients. RealEstateABC has recognized the value of having an Advanced Access website, and gives this special recognition to YOU. RealEstateABC's entire search engine strategy has been based on two things: content and link popularity. They do not use meta-tags. Since so many sites abused meta-tags, they are mostly ignored by search engines anyway. While right now, search engine algorithms primarily use incoming links in their "link popularity" measure, the next step in the evolution is measuring both incoming and outgoing links. Currently, IBM is working on a search engine that does exactly just that. According to www.websmostlinked.com, RealEstateABC are in the top two percent of "most-linked-to" web sites on the Internet (they have a database of over one milliion sites).
