What you’re forgetting about city pages

April 24th, 2007 by Aaron

Another commonly missed lead generating opportunity on a real estate website is the different city pages that are essential when creating a search engine friendly website. Most people view this as an essential chore to creating a well-ranked website, but it can very easily used for purposes other than SEO.

If you’ve taken the time to develop paragraphs of content regarding a specific city or area, you are likely to get interested traffic onto the page, and this is a clear signal that readers on your website are more interested in the area covered. Why not hook them with an offer for more information, or plug an area you are farming in the process? A contact form on these pages is a must if you expect feedback or contact data from the page, but giving the reader some food for thought is going to make this page beneficial.

Instead of the usual “Contact me with any questions or comments” header for the form, why not try a thought-provoking question? “Have you been considering [City Name] for your new home?”, “I offer an impressive relocation kit for those looking for homes in [City Name], get yours today!” or “If you’re considering [City Name] for your next move, I can supply you with some additional materials on the new [Subdivision Name] which is developing now and moving fast!”

To really increase the odds of readers using the form, be sure to make reference to it in the content, so it’s not a surprise to them once they’ve reached the end. Use anchor links in the text to allow readers to jump to the form if they’d like. But always remember to make the form seem like a bonus that everyone wants, not an optional way to contact you if they feel like it.

  1. Great pointer about the ‘thought provoking question’! I like that. It’s simple but it works. If you don’t ask for interaction, you won’t get it.

  2. Another way to improve your city pages would be to offer area specific searches or search results on that page. If the client is already interested enough to read about the community, make it easier to find homes in that area.
