Hosting a Blog under Blogger or WordPress

June 11th, 2007 by Advanced Access

Do you have a blog with one of the free blog programs such as Blogger (BlogSpot) or Wordpress?

If your blog website address is something like: myname.blogspot.com or myname.wordpress.com, you are using the free blog programs with these companies.  While it’s nice to use these programs, you are promoting the BlogSpot and WordPress domain name.  We recommend that you start promoting your own domain name and brand by using a Third Level Domain.

First you need to decide what Third Level Domain name you prefer to have.
The easiest is: Blog.YourDomain.com

Feel free to get creative though!

After that a CName needs to be created.  Here are the different instruction for WordPress and Blogger.

WordPress Instructions:

They call it Domain Mapping.  Send an email to Support@AdvancedAccess and request a CName creation. Tell us the Third Level Domain you have chosen. Note: make sure that all Third Level Domain forwardings are deleted in your Domain Manager within your Virtual Office! A CName will overwrite this.  Then, tell us where the CName needs to go to.  From the WordPress instructions, it will go to: yourblogname.wordpress.com.

After the CName is setup, go to your WordPress Dashboard, click on Options > Domains > and enter your new Third Level Domain into the box.

 Blogger Instructions:

They call it a Custom Domain. From the Blogger instructions, it will go to: ghs.google.com.

After the CName is setup, go to your Blogger Settings > Publishing and switch to a Custom Domain and enter your new Third Level Domain into the box.

Happy Blogging :)
