Tips on Real Estate Web Design, Marketing, and Search Engines

I read an article a while back on Yahoo! News from PC World called Students Take Google As Gospel and it made me chuckle.  Citing “user awareness” as the cause, the article states:

The authors suggest that more effort could be made by search engine developers to provide users with information on how the algorithms function, and that this, in turn, could help to raise user awareness.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I’m thinking that’s probably never gonna happen ;)

I know we get certain nuggets from blogs, conferences, user guidelines, etc regarding this stuff… but it sounds like they’re asking for actual math or something close to it - an interpretation of the math.

So what about the actual subject matter of the article?  It’s true, so many people take Google’s word for it… do you?  Food for thought.

  1. Interesting enough correlation about trusting the top results. However, I take issue with the unqualified statement of the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Many of us that rank high in the SERPS do our own work without the implied financial backing.

  2. If you read the Google Patent, you can definitely gain some real insight into both their current algo and where the algo may be headed. The best explanation of the algo I have read was written by Rand Fishkin over at SEOmoz. Another great resource for insights to the algo is StuntDbl. Enjoy the reading, I know I did.
