Tips on Real Estate Web Design, Marketing, and Search Engines

How often do you attend a movie where the name has nothing to do with the story? Your answer is probably “almost never.” That’s because a long time ago, Hollywood big-wigs figured out that the title of the movie can be a selling point all on its own. As the years have progressed, more and more companies are adopting this way of thinking.

Just the other day I drove past a “We’ll Sell It on eBay” store. It occurred to me that this was quite an intuitive name for a business as it was a no frills, accurate way of telling people exactly what they do.

Being that your website is essentially your store front for thousands upon thousands of possible visitors per day, what is your “name” saying about you? There are many varying schools of thought in regards to Domain Names and whether or not they should include your keywords. Although most internet marketers will agree that the use of keywords in your domain name is no longer a necessary practice, it doesn’t hurt to be direct about who you are or what you do.

For instance, if you sell real estate in the city of Shamarie, having a domain name like “ShamarieRealEstate.com” would be of benefit because it tells possible visitors what you do. However, if that domain name isn’t available, should you try to find some other alternative like “ShamarieRealtor-SellsLotsOfGreatHomes.com?”

Probably not, as the shorter and easier to spell your domain name is the better. Try going for something simple and to the point like “SkylarDittyRealtor.com.” This tells people who you are, what you do and obeys the trademark laws set forth by NAR for the use of the word “REALTOR®” in your domain name.

Modern search engines don’t put too much weight into your Domain Name, as they are quite aware that any old demolition company can easily buy and use “FlowersandPlantsinSavannah.com.” Your domain name should be selected based off of its ease of use and ability to be remembered.

Make your website a blockbuster by giving it a name that will not soon be forgotten!
