Understanding Pay-Per-Click Terms

April 18th, 2008 by Audrey

Managing a Pay-Per-Click (PPC) campaign can be difficult if you’re unsure of exactly what you’re bidding on.

Exact Match - The ad will only show up for a literal exact match of your keyword phrase. This means that if you were bidding on the term “content writing advice,” your ad would only show up if someone were to search for that exact phrase.

Phrase Match - The ad would show up for any phrase that contains your keyword term, even if it contains additional words. This means that if someone searched for “content writing advice and tips,” your ad would show up in their results.

Broad Match - Here your ad would show up if the words in your keyword phrase are included in any portion of the search phrase. Meaning that someone who does a search for “advice for writing term papers on content,” would get your ad in their results.

Have any other PPC terms that you’re unsure about? Post a comment with the term you need more information about and we’ll respond with a more detailed explaination.
