Go Local With Your Information
April 30th, 2008 by Advanced AccessIn the past we have talked about the value of local search resources, but does your site tell visitors and the search engines where you are actually located? While your website may display the areas you service, it may not identify where you’re actually located. Including your business address on pages within your site can help both your visitors and the search engines find your business.
Search engines can detect address and phone number formats. This data is essential for local search, and helps identify where you are located. Adding your contact data to the footer of all of your pages in the following format can help search engines properly identify your location:
Company Name
123 Street
City, State Zip
(555) 555-5555
If you’re more tech savvy, you may want to consider using an hCard creator to create an hCard that features your business information. hCards allow search engines and other bots to decipher between a random text passage on a website and the actual address, phone number, website, etc. that belongs to the business through special XHTML coding. By using the hCard format, business location information is easier for the search engines to identify and read. Though the usage of hCards are still fairly new for SEO purposes, the possibility of future adaptation and acceptance, is definitely there.
