Reaching Gen Y Buyers
June 18th, 2008 by AnnaI ran across an article at REALTOR.org which was sourced from USA Today about reaching a generation of buyers in their twentysomethings. Generation Y is roughly 28 years and younger.
Hey, I’m 28 – I might be able to help with this
This short n sweet article is great because it mentions very matter-of-factly that we are buying and looking, and learning from our main source of info – the Internet. And not just the Internet where we search info and find it… that was the “old days”, now we get together with our friends – both our “IRL” (in real life) friends and our web connections – to make our decisions, do research, etc.
We want to benefit from the wisdom of others. We also connect with a wide range of age groups, many of whom have had a lot more experience than ourselves and can really help us look at each angle of any topic.
So let me say, you need to be communicating with us on Facebook, MySpace, etc. At least Facebook. I say “at least Facebook” because so many people think social media is defined as “MySpace” and that it’s a dangerous place for predators. As you know, when something good happens it doesn’t usually make news… (Happy Homebuyer Credits MySpace for Matching Her to a REALTOR doesn’t really scream “prime time”). Don’t be afraid of social sites, take advantage of the business opportunites waiting for you there. So, if you refuse to use MySpace… at least use Facebook.
