5.8 Earthquake at Advanced Access Headquarters
July 29th, 2008 by AudreyWe apologize for the brief downtime in our Customer Service this afternoon; At 11:42 AM PST we experienced a 5.8 magnitude earthquake with an epicenter located just 2 miles from our offices. Staff was routinely evacuated from the building as a safety precaution until the building was deemed safe to re-enter.
All systems remained functional and all services were avilable during this time.
5.8 Earthquake in Southern California
Advanced Access will continue to provide service and support to our customers during our regular business hours, as usual.
UPDATE: Earthquake magnitude downgraded to 5.4.

I sure wish AA would get a “redundant backup” site set up outside California. When the really “BIG ONE” hits, we will really miss you guys, but our lives will need to go on. Since our lives are centered around our websites, it sure would be nice to still have them active.

Hi Mark,
Thank you for your concern.
Out of state redundancy is an important part of our “battle plan”.
We did not have any down time with the recent quake, and the building in which our in-state servers are located is able to withstand an earthquake of a much greater magnitude. Any California based server site is set up as if the “BIG ONE” were going to hit, and the building would stay standing. Obviously, no one can predict the future, but these are the specs to which the buildings are designed.
