Why Don’t You Want a Successful Website?

September 10th, 2008 by Anna

Try as you may to convince me otherwise, I think we all create obstacles which block the way to the things we want the most. It’s not that we don’t want to achieve the end result, but we sure can take the journey kicking and screaming.

So what’s hanging you up on your journey? Anything in particular? Whatever success you are seeking for your real estate website, we are here to help you reach your goals. And if you’re not even sure where to begin that’s ok too.

This tip is the beginning of a series about overcoming the obstacles keeping you from what you want most for your business. I will go over some common “hang-ups” that can get in the way, and some solutions to keep you moving forward. In addition to the Marketing Tip series, we will send you additional emails throughout the next several weeks with specific tips and tools to help you get past your obstacles and build momentum on your journey to success. These emails will be very brief keeping your busy schedule in mind.

Today, let’s chat a bit about time…

I have no time

I would say that everyone can make time for something if it’s important enough - but I have to say, no one really has extra time. So I won’t be unrealistic here.

Lack of time has the potential to be a huge obstacle for success. And what is striving for success but to find a way to have more free time? We all want to be working smarter, not harder. That’s the key - you do need to spend time to make time in the long run.

So you say you have no time, but you are spending time on your site, you just don’t know it yet. Whether you are talking about how you have no time, or spending that time actually making an effort to improve your online presence, the time is being spent. Use it wisely.

What major “categories” do you assign to your time? Family, work, friends, etc. What you need to do is change your outlook a bit - maintaining your website is a necessary part of that “work” category. Spend one less hour on worrying about your new postcards and exchange it for something that’s likely to have a greater return, such as creating an email marketing campaign. Or better yet, use a pre-written IntelliCards campaign (which will take just a few minutes) and then use the rest of the time to start writing some content.

  1. A great tip!

Be honest with yourself, recongize that “I don’t have enough time for X” means, in reality, “I would rather spend my time on Y than X”

Maybe that is true. However, don’t turn around and wonder why X isn’t doing so well, or why it’s underpreforming in comparison to your expectations.
