Social Media Manners Matter
December 10th, 2008 by AnnaI’ve been writing to you a lot lately about social media involvement on sites such as Facebook and Yahoo Answers. It is important to not only be involved, but to also mind your manners.
Tamar Weinberg has posted the Ultimate Social Media Etiquette Handbook at Techipedia, and it is recommended reading for all of you!
Many of you have joined our new Facebook group, or have started following me on Twitter, and I am very happy that you are taking the plunge. I was also pleasantly surprised to see how many of your are already on these sites and were just waiting for me to catch up with you! Others may be waiting to jump in because you aren’t sure how it all works. Tamar’s post is perfect for all of you; experienced and newbies alike.
Tamar points out that many people miss the fact that these conversations are real and the people you are writing to are real.
Remember that social media communities are real relationships, real conversations, and as such, they should be treated like they are real. It’s not about a me, myself, and I mentality. It’s about the collective, the community, and the common good.
To add to that, these real conversations can lead to real business, so pay attention.
