Developing Your Content

June 17th, 2009 by Anna

I have written many times about the importance and benefits of adding content to your real estate website. Over the years, the concept hasn’t changed much: You need unique and quality content that is relevant to your business on your website. What has changed is the market, and with it, the topics you need to include on your website to remain competitive.

Let’s review some of the most important topics you should already have on your site:

- Area real estate information - the basics
- Your agent biography
- “City Pages” - a page of useful information, history, attractions, listings, etc for each city you sell

In addition to these topics, you should have your homepage tailored to your business and linking to the other topic pages you have created. In other words: no default content.

And now, for the “hot topics” of the current market:

- Foreclosures
- Short sales
- Credit repair
- Is now a good time to buy/sell?
- Can you afford your mortgage payments?

Other than these topics focused on current events, you probably have additional topics to write about that are specific to your area or niche. For example, if you sell primarily “fixer-uppers”, you would benefit from having an article on your website about choosing a trustworthy contractor.

Don’t just stick to the status quo on content. This will not keep visitors on your site, or encourage them to contact you. You need to offer more to people in this market. If you provide the information that is most valuable to your prospects, you will be the resource they look to.

Once you develop content for your real estate website, be sure you add a call to action on each page, and include a contact form.
