Use YouTube to Promote Your Website

August 12th, 2009 by Joanne Fuentes

Last week we talked about using Facebook to advertise your listings. This week, Joanne from our Website Marketing department has written about using YouTube to promote your real estate website.

More and more people are using YouTube to search for videos. YouTube videos also show up within Google search results. If you have videos, put them on YouTube. YouTube can help promote your website. To top it off YouTube is free for anyone to use.

What if I don’t have any videos?

If you don’t have any videos, here is an idea. Drive around in a neighborhood with a video camera (most digital cameras have video capabilities as well). Start with the neighborhood entrance sign and drive around so that people can see how beautiful the houses are in the neighborhood. Save your clients some gas by doing the driving around for them, so they can just view all the different communities from your videos. Upload these videos on YouTube. Then you can add these videos to your real estate website. Your clients will appreciate this added value.

Tips for adding video to YouTube

When you upload a video to YouTube, make sure you take advantage of the title, description, and tags. Doing this correctly will greatly benefit your website and your video. The title, description and tags help your video to be found by YouTube users.

Title: Make sure your title is relevant to the video. For example, you can make the title the name of the city and neighborhood you drove around in.

Description: In the description, describe your video in words. Make sure to use phrases like real estate and homes. You can also mention your name, phone number and web address. It is very important to mention your web address properly. If you want the link to count you need to make sure you add the http:// to your web address. It is also better to mention your web address within the first 195 characters (including spaces) of the description.

Tags: The tags are like keywords. Choose words that describe your video. For example, you can add the name of the city, the name of the neighborhood, your name, real estate, luxury homes, etc. Just make sure the tags/keywords are relevant to your video.

Advantages to Video

Your Visitors Will Love It
Video is a great complement to your real estate website. Interested buyers will look to your site for visual information on your area. Many buyers like to check out the area by driving around in the neighborhood before purchasing a home, and you can do that for them!

1 Video on YouTube = 1 Link to your website

Take advantage of the description to add your web address. That will count as one inbound link to your website. The more videos you have the more inbound links you will have. Therefore, your videos on YouTube are increasing your link popularity for your website. Link popularity is one important key factor to how a search engine ranks your website.

  1. Great information. I wish there was a simple example of a site and the way it incorporates these ideas.
