An Interview With Lisa Stubblefield

Advanced Access: How did you get started in the Real Estate Industry?

Lisa Stubblefield:. My mother had been curious about real estate investing for years and was becoming more and more interested in learning about it.  She traveled every week for her job and was unable to attend the real estate investor meetings in town.  After I quit my software engineering job at Lockheed Martin to move home to Texas, I started attending real estate investor meetings to “take notes” for my mother.  It only took a few meetings to realize people were actually making money in real estate investing.  I spent about a year asking for help from real estate agents I met at meetings and then I decided I needed to get my license so I could access all of the information for myself.  At the time, I had a full-time job and just did real estate on the side.  I helped my mother who works on short sales with homeowners and also people who are relocating.  My former broker, Jim Jackson at Capitol Area Real Estate, suggested I focus on “house hunters” relocating to the Austin area because I could do a lot of this type of work online and during hours not spent at my regular job.  I would then work with other agents who could take the clients out to view properties when they came to Austin.  I liked working with people who were relocating, but my true love was investing.   A business associate and fellow investor, Angelique Naylor, started her own brokerage firm – Realty World Homes & Investments, LLC.  I moved to Realty World Homes & Investments, LLC, to focus on working with homeowners in trouble and with investors.  I recently quit my job to go into real estate full-time.

AA: Do you have a specialty or favorite niche market group?

LS:  I focus on short sales and also working with investors.  Short sales are work-intensive, but I enjoy feeling like I’m not only selling houses, but I’m helping people who truly need my help.  I like working with investors because they are usually looking for properties I enjoy investigating.  I like the “hunt” and subsequent “kill” in searching for the right property for each client and assisting them in finding it.

AA: At what point did you realize your need for a website?Describe your journey to Advanced Access and why you chose us as your provider.

LS:   Jim Jackson at Capitol Area Realty strongly emphasized to all of his agents that in this day and age, an Internet presence is a must.  He encouraged each of his agents to have their own identity and website.  He had an Advanced Access representative come to our weekly sales meeting and I signed up.  I so strongly valued Jim’s opinion that if he thought Advanced Access was a good organization, I would trust him.  He was right!

AA: How has your real estate website impacted your business?

LS:   The first thing I do when I start talking to a prospect is direct them to my website.  I’ve gotten great feedback on it.  I have always intended to spend the time to do more with my site, but fortunately it isn’t really necessary.  My clients tell me it looks great, is user-friendly, and they can find great information about the Austin area, such as homes available, mortgages & rates, school districts, real estate news and information on buying and selling a home.  My clients like the amount and variety of information available to them 24/7 on my site and I have been told my clients it was one of the reasons they liked working with me.

AA: What other resources through Advanced Access and life in general have contributed to your success?

LS: I believe my genuine interest in real estate and my desire to do my best for my clients has helped me succeed in real estate.  My brokers, formerly Jim Jackson of Capitol Area Realty and currently Angelique Naylor of Realty World Homes & Investments, LLC, have both been indispensable for mentoring and encouragement.  With the way technology is taking over the process home buyers use to select a house/realtor, I expect my website to continue playing a large role.

AA: Share with us some information about a recent transaction that began as a result of your website.

LS:  A friend forwarded my information, including my website, to another friend in St. Louis.  The St. Louis couple said they loved the amount of information they could access on my site.  Her husband loved the fact I had Stevie Ray Vaughn on the home page.  (an Advanced Access Image!)  Now, I’m helping them look for their perfect home here in Austin.

AA: What are some of your goals for your website and your online presence?

LS:   Now that Advanced Access is an approved vendor with Realty World, I plan to put my website on everything I do.  I’ve attended a few marketing/networking educational seminars and trainings and they all say the web is “where it’s at!”  I know I always start my search for things on the Internet.  I never even pick up a phone book anymore, and I’m not the only one.

AA: Tell us a little about your family, your history, and what you like to do in your spare time.

LS:. I’m single, so my immediate family consists of me and my Italian Mastiff, Sophia.  My family is very supportive of my real estate business.  My mother is an investor and works with short sale clients as well.  As I mentioned, she’s the reason I ended up doing what I’m doing.  My brother in Houston owns his own computer support and security business.  I’m an eighth generation Texan who grew up in Houston and graduated from Texas State University just south of Austin in San Marcos.  I’ve lived in Denver, CO and Lancaster, CA.  Doing so strengthened my love for Texas.  I was a software engineer at Lockheed Martin and quit that job to come home to Texas.  I’m grateful I fell into real estate because I like what I do.  My personal passion is dancing.  I like to say I “bar room” dance, not “ballroom” dance because I just learn what people teach me.  I have taken lessons in West Coast Swing and plan to start ballroom lessons the end of this month because that’s when they start the Mambo classes…I can’t wait!  I also enjoy scuba diving and listening to live music, which makes living in the “Live Music Capital of the World” a nice place to be.
