Regular Check-Ups - Websites Need Attention Too
This is the second in a series of four articles that will help you increase your Search Engine Optimization
When was the last time you took a look at your website on the whole, while paying attention to each of your interior pages individually? We tend to think of a website as a singular object, forgetting to consider each and every aspect as a contributing factor to the overall success of the site itself.
Are the interior pages of your site helping to lend credit to the overall tone and theme you’re looking to express? If you’re not sure about the answer to that general question, you may want to ask yourself some of the following in order to gain a better perspective for what you should be doing to your website:
- Are you linking out to other pages of your site within your content?
- Are you using ‘alt’ tags on your images?
- Are you using proper anchor text in your links?
- How many clicks does it take to get from your homepage to the most important pages of your site?
- Is your site easy to read? Are the fonts presented in a clean friendly manner?
- Are you including a “call to action” on each page of the site?
- Are you using a site map?
- Do your interior pages match the tone and theme of your homepage?
- Does your content speak in a way that anyone and everyone can understand, not just to those that know about Real Estate and its terminology?
- Is your “About Me” page actually about YOU?
- Are you updating your testimonials whenever you receive a new one?
- Are you updating your content with relevant information whenever possible to be sure that your site does not become stale?
- Have you checked to make sure that all of the links on your site are routed correctly and working?
- Is your site optimized for the search engines with proper Meta tags, keywords, navigation, etc.?
- Does your site include features that will encourage your visitors to return in the future? (i.e. weekly newsletters, contests, interactive community calendars, etc.)
Once you have answered these questions for yourself, you should have a good idea for which areas of your site need attention. Taking a good look at your site as a whole every 3 months or so would be an excellent practice to get into the habit of.
