Don't Lose Direction; Use a Site Map
This is the fourth in a series of four articles that will help you increase your Search Engine Optimization
A site map, in general terms, is a list of all of the pages of your website, listed in one location so that search engines can easily find them.
Your ADVANCED ACCESS website was created with a very basic version of a Site Map, which can be accessed via the Virtual Office in the Page Manager, under “Site Disclaimer.” If you still have your original site map in tact, you may notice that it contains text links to some of the main pages of your AA site, however if you have created any custom interior pages, they have not been automatically added to the list.
You will need to manually add new pages to your Site Map in order to keep it current.
Due to the fact that all of the major search engines use generally the same protocol, there is no need to optimize this page for any certain search engine; you simply need a clean list of links. You are not confined to using the “Site Disclaimer” portion of your AA site for your sitemap location, although putting it in this area does ensure that it shows up at the bottom of every page of your site.
If you would like to have a separate, stand-alone site map, you can do so by creating a new page on your site and simply adding an organized list of links to each of your interior pages there. Then, make sure you provide a link to the page containing the sitemap from somewhere like your homepage so that the search engines can easily find it, otherwise you’ve defeated the whole purpose!
Make sure to keep in mind that having a site map will not guarantee that your links or pages will be crawled or indexed, but it is still your best bet for showcasing the pages of your site to the search engines and your visitors!
