Does Your Current Website Have What It Takes To Win?

You’ve put a lot of hard work and effort into your website!  You’ve read reports, looked at countless numbers of other sites, and have pretty much listened to anyone and everyone who claims to be an expert in the website enhancement industry.

And now…it’s time to see what the results of all your efforts bring.

This is the time of the year in which various website recognition and award programs begin to ask for submissions, and we wanted to call you attention to two of these kinds of programs.  They’re good for a number of reasons – but mostly because it’s always healthy and productive to see what other professionals think about your website, the features it offers, and how it appeals to those potential clients who may happen to find it on the Internet.

Web Marketing Association’s WebAwards

Brought to you by the Web Marketing Association, the WebAwards are a yearly competition that names the best websites in nearly one hundred different categories. The “Best” websites are reviewed and determined by a panel of judges who look at several elements of the entry site, including website design, ease-of-use, copywriting, user interaction, technology, innovation and overall content value.

One of their most popular and sought out categories each year is the Best Real Estate web site award.  Many REALTORS® and Brokers alike enter the contest with the hopes of gaining and impressing clients, displaying the value of their website to the general public, and some simply to receive the valuable feedback that is provided to all who enter. If your website is not chosen for the Best Real Estate Website category, you are still eligible for other general awards.

There is a small cost to enter this competition, submissions can be made for $195 for each site; $99 for those non-profit agencies.  After May 31st, an additional $50 fee is required.  Judging is going to be held from June15th through the end of August, with the winners announced in September of 2008!

Internet Word of the Day
Here are a few more terms that you need to become familiar with:

HTML: \Hypertext Markup Language\ - HyperText Markup Language, is the predominant markup language for web pages. It provides a means to describe the structure of text-based information in a document - by denoting certain text as links, headings, paragraphs, lists, and so on - and to supplement that text with interactive forms, embedded images, and other objects.

HYPERTEXT/HYPERLINK: - most often refers to text on a computer that will lead the user to other, related information on demand. Hypertext represents a relatively recent innovation to user interfaces, which overcomes some of the limitations of written text. Rather than remaining static like traditional text, hypertext makes possible a dynamic organization of information through links and connections (called hyperlinks). Hypertext can be designed to perform various tasks; for instance when a user "clicks" on it or "hovers" over it, a bubble with a word definition may appear, a web page on a related subject may load, a video clip may run, or an application may open.

Did you know?

HTML, HTML is a nonproprietary format based on SGML (Standard Generalized Markup Language).  It can be created and processed in a wide range of software programs, from simple plain text editors to programs with sophisticated authoring tools.  HTML uses tags to structure text into headlines, paragraphs, lists, and links.  It actually tells a Web browser how to display text and images.  To view a Web page’s HTML code, you can simply select “view source” from the View Menu in your respective Web browser.

HYPERTEXT/HYPERLINK, This is the text or graphics on a Web site that can be clicked-on with a mouse that will take you to another Web page or a different area of the same Web page.  Hyperlinks are usually created in HTML, and are most commonly used to load multimedia files such as movies, sound files, or other featured enhancements.
