How to Read your Web Statistics!

One of your Virtual Office’s most technologically advanced features is the Web Statistics Page. This page will monitor the traffic to your sites.  Not only will the Statistics page provide you with information such as how many people are viewing your site, it will also provide you information about which pages are viewed most often, and how much time is spent by people viewing your pages. This feature offers many reports that will even tell you which part of the country your visitors are from!

To get you started, let's go over some basic definitions.

Sessions
The total number of individual visitors who used one browser application to view your page one time within a 24-hour period.
Hits
Your site receives a hit whenever someone visits a page on your website. For a person’s visit to register as a hit, your website needs to load completely.
Impressions
The total number of times your page is viewed, excluding Reloads. Essentially it is the total amount of "hits" to your page, including Sessions, One Hour and Same Day visitors.

To enter your Web Statistics page, go to the Main Menu of your Virtual Office and click on the link entitled 'Web Statistics'. First you will see a link to your website. If you have more than one website, click on the one for which you want to view the statistics of. The following screen will appear:

On the left hand side of the screen, you will see a menu bar. Use this menu bar to navigate your way through the Web Statistics.

If you scroll down the first page, you will see another graph:

The blue bars represent THIS week's statistics.  The red bars represent LAST week's statistics.  Below the graph, you will see a summary of the current weeks statistics.

The Basics

Date Selection is a very important section of your Web Statistics.  You can view how many visitors that have come to your site within a certain time frame.  (This is extremely beneficial to see the effect your marketing or promotions in your community has on the number of visitors you're receiving to your website)

To select a time frame, click on the plus mark (+) next to the words "Date Selection" on the left hand side of your screen.  You will then see a calendar of the month.

Display by: You can choose between day, week, month, or range.

Number of Items: The default is 25, but this section is for viewing a greater number of visitors, particular pages to your site, or referring domain names.  If you are looking between a range of time, you might want to select a higher number.

Once you choose your selections, click on  Update Report.  This will immediately update the graph to your right hand side.  It might take a few moments to load...

The Summaries link in the menu bar will provide you with information for yesterday, last week, and last month.

When viewing the information from 'Yesterday', please be aware that it might not be updated at the time you are viewing it.

The reason the information might not be visible yet is because we have three dedicated servers running our statistical programs.  It takes almost a FULL DAY to process all the log files generated from these websites.  (Translation: There are so many people visiting all your websites, it takes a long time to count them up!)  So, be patient with the information, it will show up soon!

Now, try clicking on 'Last Week' underneath the 'Summaries' section.  This section contains extensive information about the number of people who have visited your website, how much time they have spent, which pages they accessed, where they came from, etc.

If you scroll down to the very bottom of the page, you will see a section that says "Sessions by Network Location".  With this information you can see the physical location WHERE your visitor is from.

REMEMBER: sometimes these numbers can be skewed. For example, if a visitor uses AOL, their location will read Virginia even though they may be located in a different part of the country. This is because AOL’s server is in Virginia.

These stats can be quite interesting because you can see that people are coming from all around the world to visit your website!  You might want to think about compiling this information for a powerful listing presentation.

Another guideline to keep in mind when using the Web Statistics program is that the Print icon on the top of the screen does not mean your printer will print the report. This button will frame the information in a printer friendly way. After you have clicked on the print icon, you must then go to the menu bar on your Browser and print from that location.

Next week, we will go over what some of the other specific sections include!
