How to Never
Have Another Long Email Disappear After You’ve Typed Most of it
Out.
By Bill Koelzer
Ever be typing out a long email and when you were
nearly finished, your computer froze up, you lost
power, or you accidentally deleted what you’d typed? Yes, there’s “Undo,” but
what if you lost something too far back for Undo to Undo?
Curses aside, we’ve all done
that right? Here’s how to avoid that sad moment.
Whenever you realize that
your email is getting long, copy what you have done so far, go to your Microsoft Word, open a blank
page, and paste your work onto it. Here’s the next step, though, to REALLY
prevent loss.
Immediately SAVE the Word
document. But just before you SAVE it, open a new FOLDER and name it
“eMail-DeleteThis.” Then, SAVE the text to that folder. (Later, when your email
is safely gone, you can delete the contents of this folder to save
space)
Also, be sure that you have
commanded your Word software to SAVE DOCUMENTS in the background every so many
minutes to ensure that no recent typing is lost.
To do this, while in your
Word document, go to Tools>Options>Save and put a check mark alongside:
“Save AutoRecovery Info
Every ( ) Minutes” Doing so tells Word to Automatically Recover your document
up to the point of your last real SAVE or AutoRecovery SAVE that you made. I
set mine to save every three minutes, and then I know I will likely only lose
the last paragraph or so.
Activating AutoRecovery
means that the NEXT time that you OPEN Word (or, often, reboot and open
Word), what pops up automatically is the document that you just left, ideally
with all or most of your text still there waiting for you.
When that document pops up,
it may say “Recovered” in its name. Therefore, just SAVE AS the same
name you’d given it earlier, and when it asks if you want to replace the
original document of that name, say OK.
If you had been typing out a
long email message when you lost power or your computer locked up, you can see
how happy these tricks would make you. Now you never have to lose a
partially-typed email message again. Just always remember that when your
document gets beyond 3-4 paragraphs, you might want to finish writing it in
Word. Then just copy and paste the entire brilliant email you’ve composed into
your email box…. and just send it as usual.
If you love learning new
tricks like this, you can show your appreciation of me telling you by sending me
truckloads of the new, but almost impossible-to-find, Heinz Lo-Carb Ketchup (I
love ketchup) because on July seventh, my goal of losing 60 pounds began.
(EEEEEk!)

ADVANCED
ACCESS COMPLETES PROMOTIONAL VIDEO

The Sales Division, in
cooperation with the Marketing & Communication Division of ADVANCED
ACCESS, recently completed the filming of its first-ever promotional video
entitled “The KEY To Your Success…Is Our SERVICE.” The 5-7 minute
production, which was shot at company headquarters in Anaheim, California, will
be used for various informational and promotional purposes throughout the
year.
The video features current
ADVANCED ACCESS staff, as well as a brief review of products, programs,
and services. The taping schedule utilized several locations and Departments at
the modern ADVANCED ACCESS facility.
After conducting an
extensive search and interview, Karen S. Gregan of Artist Management
Agency, Inc., was chosen to serve as the video’s host, and brought a wealth of
talent and experience to the production. Gregan is an established and
experienced host, who has credits in television, film, theatre, and training.
She has appeared in a variety of television shows including, “The District,”
“The Practice,” “Party of Five,” “Picket Fences,” and “Melrose Place.” A local
agency, The Video Editor, which specializes in visual communication, was
chosen to record and produce the video, and its President Steve Kosch, was
personally in charge and supervised taping at the site.
“The need for a video
presentation of this type had existed quite some time, and we felt the timing
was right to produce a quality production that could be utilized in several
different settings,” stated Jane Ellsworth-Purcell, Sr. Vice President for
ADVANCED ACCESS.
The tape of the “raw
un-edited” footage was compiled for preliminary viewing, and over the next few
days final editing will be completed before being viewed and approved by the
ADVANCED ACCESS Senior Management Team.
Gary R. Brackle, VP of
Affinity Marketing & Communications, was also pleased with the company’s
initial effort with a promotional video. “Obviously, all of staff was quite
excited about our first attempt of a production of this kind, and as equally
important as the video shoot itself was the commitment to keep an attitude of
“business as usual” here at our offices throughout the day-long shoot.” He
continued, “It was vital to keep our staff in a position where they could
continue to service our clients while the video shoot was being
completed.”
Cameo appearances were also
made by some current ADVANCED ACCESS clients. Debbie Ferrari, Drew
Hartanov, and Debbie Eversole were all invited to participate in the filming of
the piece, and will be featured in various spots in the final
production.
